About the event

For the past year, the Progressives have been working with several other Oakmont political clubs as part of the Oakmont Democratic Alliance. But we haven’t gone away. In the coming months, we will return to our customary examination of current political issues and problems from a Progressive perspective, and determining what we can do to help our democracy survive the coming Trump administration.

We won’t be meeting in January at our usual time, the second Monday of every month. Instead, this month, we will co-sponsor an event with the Oakmont Democratic Club, a talk entitled “What Happened” examining the results of November’s national election, the basis of Trump’s appeal and the difficulties faced by the Democratic Party. Dr. David McCuan will do the presentation and respond to questions. Thursday, Jan. 23 at the East Rec Center. As always, we'll start with a social at 6:30 -- please bring libations and light appetizers to share.

After the presentation, those who wish to stay will gather to discuss what Progressives can do in the coming months to advance progressive causes and resist the assault on democratic values that we anticipate. We will also ask anyone interested in leadership positions in the two clubs to let us know and have a conversation.

Professor David McCuan, from Sonoma State University, has long been a popular speaker here in Oakmont. In every recent election cycle, he has come to explore what the data shows about the electorate and the likely outcomes and controversies. His expertise in state and local politics, campaigns and elections and political behavior makes him in high demand by main stream media.  He has appeared on Bay Area and national TV news outlets including CNN, ABC, PBS and others, and been interviewed by the SF Chronicle, the New York Times, the Press Democrat and many others. He is and informed and engaging speaker.
