About the event
Sonoma County DSA, Working Families Party and Indivisible Sonoma County will host a forum on August 19 at 6:30 pm to provide an overview of the two progressive tax measures—Proposition 3, the Education and Health Care Act, and Proposition 40, the Billionaire Tax—that will be placed before voters on the November state ballot.
Questions to be addressed: “If these measures pass, won’t all the rich people leave and take all the jobs with them?” “Won’t this actually cause the state to lose, not gain tax revenues?” “What are the current statistics on economic inequality?” “Why is it necessary for the wealthiest Californians to pay a more fair share of taxes?” “Have any measures like these been implemented before?” “What can I do to help pass these measures?”
Addressing these measures will be labor historian Fred Glass, Co-Chair,
California DSA Tax the Rich Working Group, former communications director for the California Federation of Teachers, and the author of From Mission to Microchip: A History of the California Labor Movement. Fred helped design the 2012 and 2016 progressive tax campaigns, earlier iterations of Prop 3.
