About the event
President Trump is moving aggressively on his immigration agenda. What does that mean for the local immigrants? What can local residents do to help the large immigrant community in Sonoma County? Gina Garibo from the North Bay Organizing Project and Claudia Robbins from North Bay Rapid Response Network will present an overview of what we can do to respond at the Oakmont Progressives General Meeting at 7PM on Monday February 10 at the East Rec Center.
Gina Garibo has worked for the past 10 years with immigrants on both sides of the border as a researcher and advocate. Her past work includes working on a campaign to address police abuse in Mexico. Gina is currently an organizer with the North Bay Organizing Project focused on helping local immigrants.
Claudia Robbins is a member of the Steering Committee of the North Bay Rapid Response Network of Sonoma and Napa Counties. This Network provides an information hot line for immigrants who have concerns and questions about possible illegal immigration raids. It also trains volunteers to serve as witnesses during ICE raids. All persons physically in the United States have certain rights as defined by the Constitution and this Network helps ensure those rights are protected. There will be an opportunity for questions and to see how Oakmonters can help.
This meeting is co-sponsored by the Oakmont Democratic Club. Oakmonters are encouraged to arrive early for a social at 6:30PM and to bring a snack and beverage to share.
