About the event

The passage of Prop 50, a.k.a. the "Election Rigging Response Act," is critical to countering Trump's latest attack on our electoral process. And, because it is the only thing on this year's California ballot, voter turnout is everything! Join one or both canvassing days (Sat, Sep 20 and Sat, Oct 4) to remind Oakmonters of the importance of filling out their ballots.

Thanks to a generous donation from one of our members, the Oakmont Alliance has been able to purchase a number of Prop 50 lawn signs and we'll be giving them away on the patio on a first come - first served basis.

Here's the schedule:

9:30 - 10:00: Rally on the CAC patio where you'll receive instructions and hear from Prop 50 advocates.

10:00 - 11:30: Fan out in pairs to knock on doors.

11:30-Noon: Regroup on the patio for snacks and a debrief. What went well? What didn't? Can we be more effective?

Thinking of coming? Think about inviting a friend or two to join you. And please, RSVP.

About Prop 50:

Also known as the "Election Rigging Response Act," this proposition would temporarily override California's independent Citizens Redistricting Commission.

Purpose: To counter partisan congressional redistricting efforts in other states, particularly a mid-decade map change in Texas. The measure argues that this change is a partisan power grab and that California should respond to protect its voters.

Key provisions:

It would require California to use new congressional district maps, created by the legislature via Assembly Bill 604 (AB 604), for elections from 2026 through 2030.

The independent Citizens Redistricting Commission, which drew the current maps, would resume its authority in 2031.

The proposition also declares that it is California's policy to support fair, nonpartisan redistricting commissions nationwide.

Most Democrats favor Prop 50. It's up to us to make sure they show up to vote.
