About the event
What is the TRUTH Act Forum?
This TRUTH Act Forum is the place where the Sheriff is required to answer our questions about his cooperation with ICE. In 2018, following a pressure campaign by Sonoma County immigrant communities and allies, the Sonoma County Supervisors supported California Senate Bill 54, the California Values Act (SB 54). This law was passed because immigrant people were being deprived of their rights when local Sheriffs cooperated with immigration authorities, reporting people for deportation after their convictions.
We all will be safer if the Sheriff STOPS cooperating with ICE:
Helping ICE is not required by law; the Sheriff has decided to voluntarily help ICE
Families are being cruelly separated by deportation
Immigrant people are reluctant to report crimes, including domestic violence
People are wrongly arrested and deported
Sonoma County taxpayers pay for the Sheriff’s cooperation with ICE
