About the event
Oakmont Progressives and the Oakmont Democratic Alliance will meet on Monday, June 12 at the East Rec Center, 6:30 social, 7:00 PM talk and discussion.
Our speakers will be two members of our children and grandchildren’s generation, Miles Dillingham from the Sonoma State Young Democrats, and Eric Vazquez from the Wine Country Young Democrats. It promises to be a fascinating evening and lively discussion.
At our meetings, we often agonize over the state of the world we’re leaving to our children and grandchildren. The survival of our Democracy is under threat. Planet Earth is warming faster than scientists expected, and Americans just elected an administration committed to greater reliance on burning fossil fuels. Our country’s involved in a war in Ukraine, and supports incredible destruction and slaughter in the Middle East. Corruption in DC has risen to a nearly unprecedented level. What a mess!
But how often to we ask younger folks what they think, and how they react. Well, this is our chance. And these two articulate and thoughtful young people may surprise you with some of the opportunities they see from their vantage point.
Miles Dillingham is an undergraduate in Political Science at Sonoma State, who helped found their Young Democrats and has been involved in a number of political campaigns. Eric Vazquez is Past President of Wine Country Young Democrats. He has been active in a number of state and local campaigns. His organization seeks to give a voice to younger, politically aware people, and supports singe-payer health care, the Green New Deal, workers’ rights, reproductive rights, unions, and LGBTQ+ representation.
All are welcome. As always, feel free to bring light appetizers and the libation of your choice to share.
