It's another election cycle and, as we did two years ago, it's time for Oakmonters to flip another Republican seat. This time it's CA-22 encompassing much of Bakersfield and its surroundings.

ABOUT OUR CANDIDATE
Randy Villegas is a progressive who favors, among other things, single-payer healthcare and strong environmental protections. He is a charismatic 31-year-old Latino in a majority-Latino district with an average voter age of thirty. Randy has earned endorsements from Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and has defied political odds by beating a more moderate Democrat (who is now actively campaigning on his behalf) in a traditionally conservative district as a progressive Democrat.
But the big test will be against incumbent Republican Rep. David Valadao in November. Although Randy is polling 4 points ahead of his opponent, voter turnout, especially among Democrats, has been challenging in this district. Because Randy does not accept corporate PAC money, it is up to people like us to make sure he has sufficient funds to energize his electorate.
This is considered to be one of the most critical congressional elections in the country as it will play an oversized role in determining the future direction of the Democratic Party.
ABOUT THE EVENT
Like we did two years ago when we pushed Democratic challenger Adam Gray over the top in CA13, we are committed to repeating that performance this year.
With the help of Holly Near in April, the Oakmont Democratic Alliance was able to contribute $19,000 to Randy's primary race. Now, with the primary in the rearview mirror, we move on to the general election in November. In recognition of our community and to promote our candidate, Holly will be making another appearance.
Also appearing in support of Randy Villegas will be our own District 1 Congressional candidate Mike McGuire, State Senate candidate Damon Connolly, candidate for California Insurance Commissioner Jane Kim, and State Assembly candidate Jackie Elward.
There will be wine, a delicious small-plate buffet, live music, and more.
